Érd Local History Exhibition

In light of the rich history of the place, the Local Government of Érd decided to display a local history collection at 13 Felső utca. On 1 January 2008, the Local History and Sports History Exhibition was opened as a separate collection of the Hungarian Geographical Museum. Housed in a late 19th century house with a veranda, the exhibition plots the history of Érd from pre-historic times to the 1930s in a complex manner using archaeological, ethnographic, local history and sports history-related objects and artefacts.
A rich collection of objects from the New Stone Age, the Bronze Age, the Iron Age, the Roman Age and the Middle Ages unearthed on the territory of the town are on display in the first room.

The ethnographical section offers an insight into the interiors of a kitchen and a room. In addition to the furniture and the equipment from the turn of the 20th century, traditional local garments worn at the time as well as photos and documents capturing the daily life of the population of Érd are on display. Visitors can also admire the traditional costumes of ethnic Serbs and ethnic Germans, whose ancestors settled in Érd in the 17th and 18th centuries.

The third room exhibits a few ethnographic items of the Seklers of Bukovina who settled in Érd in the 1960s (women’s and men’s wear and a section of what is called “tisztaszoba” (clean room)).

The last room familiarises us with the most influential factors of Érd’s 20th century history, including the ravaging floods on the River Danube, the parcelling of land in the 1930s, a few glorious decades of the airfield and a few accomplishments of athletes from the town.
